What is Arc?
Arc is a free app for sending files, photos and videos between your phones, tablets and computers, and to your friends. It runs on iPhone, iPad, Android, Mac and Windows, and works whether your devices share a Wi-Fi network or not.
How do I send files from my phone to my computer without a cable?
Install Arc on both devices and sign in with the same account. Your computer shows up in Arc's device list on your phone: pick it, choose your files, and they go straight across the network, so there's no cable to find.
Do both devices need to be on the same Wi-Fi?
No. On the same Wi-Fi, Arc connects your devices directly over the local network. On cellular, on different networks or in different countries, Arc still finds the other device and sends straight to it.
Can I send files between iPhone and Android, or iPhone and Windows?
Yes. Arc works between any of the devices it supports, so you can send from iPhone to Android, iPhone to a Windows PC, Android to a Mac, or any other pair, in either direction.
Does Arc compress photos and videos?
No. Arc sends the original file, so photos and videos arrive at full resolution, exactly as they were taken.
Is Arc secure? Are my files uploaded to the cloud?
Every Arc transfer is end-to-end encrypted, and files go from one device to the other without being uploaded to cloud storage. When a direct connection isn't possible, the encrypted data passes through a relay that can't read it and doesn't keep it.
Can I send files to friends?
Yes. Invite a friend by email once. They install Arc, and then they appear in your list next to your own devices. After that you can send them files from anywhere, on any network.
Can I send a whole folder?
Yes. Arc sends folders with all their subfolders, and they arrive as a folder on the other device, with the same structure.
What happens if a transfer is interrupted?
Send the file again, and Arc picks up where it left off instead of starting over, as long as the file hasn't changed.
Is Arc free?
Yes. Arc is free to download and use on every device, with no ads and generous daily limits. If you send a lot, an optional upgrade extends them.
Do I need an account?
Yes. You sign in to Arc so your devices and your friends can find each other.
